Portable Antiquities needed to raise funding, and encourage the public to record their findings with their officers.

The identity, location, and historical relevance is revealed in the caption together with the finder’s name. This device engages interest in the mysterious objects and encourages recording.

Simplified charts and tables allowed all, not just the technically adept, to grasp the statistical information presented.

The report facilitated the bid to secure funds up until 2006, by the Heritage Lottery Fund and a consortium of national bodies led by Resource: the Council for Museums, Archives and Libraries.
